Cancelled Early Release Days

On Saturday, Feb.1, 2014 the school board voted to use the next 2 early release days(2/5 and 4/16) as normal school days to make up the lost school time recently to inclement weather. The district is short required minutes due to the 4 snow days and by canceling the next 2 early release days the minutes can be recouped. This means that on 2/5 (next Wednesday) and 4/16 students will be in school until the end of the day (normal release time).

MAES-MVA students raise funds for 4 yr. old Laotian girl's surgery
As part of a MVA's service learning for the current "Becoming American" expedition, students at MVA and MAES are raising money for Bee, a four-year-old Laotian girl.  Bee will need corrective surgery to repair a cleft-pallet, as well as a hole in the roof of her mouth. She avoids showing her face to anyone but a family member. When Lao folks stroll past her, she burrows her face in her mother's side or turns her head to the wall. Her mother recently mentioned that Bee won't show her face to anyone. She talks about being
afraid to go to school. She won't play with other children, only her sister. With the surgical procedure MVA students are sponsoring, Bee may still be a shy person, and that's just fine. But after today, she'll be shy because she's shy, not because she's ashamed of her face! MVA and MAES are trying to raise $250 for the surgery. Additional money raised will go toward helping other Laotian children with both club-foot and cleft pallet conditions.
Coca cola Reward Points
On bottles or packages of Coke products, a number/letter code is found.  These can be entered on the mycokerewards.com website allowing the school to purchase miscellaneous supplies. We appreciate your time in helping us earn reward points!

MVA - We Help War Victims
Former Weston Elementary Principal Jim Harris is currently making his 17th visit to Laos with a team who's purpose is to detonate bombs left over from the Vietman War. Harris was used as a local expert in the Becoming American expedition at MVA. Harris also works to identify war victims needing prosthetic limbs, as well as children needing surgical procedures in the South East Asian country.
